An American mother has been charged with broadcasting the abuse of her own child over the internet after a live stream was discovered by British police.

Julie M. Carr, 30, was arrested on Friday in Maine, New England after West Midlands Police investigators tuned in to the alleged sexual assault from nearly 5000km away.

An 18-year-old man from the town of Walsall was also taken into custody for allegedly watching the broadcast.

Ms Carr's four children, believed to be aged between 18 months and five years, have been taken into protective care while she is held on $62,400 bail over charges of gross sexual assault and child exploitation.

Officials believe she had previously sent out previous abusive recordings.

"It's just continuing a trend that we're seeing — an increase in this type of crime," Fox News reported Maine State Police Detective Sergeant John Cote as saying.

"But as technology gets better, more units are dedicating more agents to this type of crime and are just getting better at it."

The English man has charged with possession and distribution of abusive images of children.

Some people just shouldn't breed. I've bred dogs and a when a mother dog attacks her own pups, you shoot it. I think jail is too soft a punishment for people that deliberately harm thier own children and thier needs to more severe punishments for them.

The sad thing is, she probably thought she was going to get away with it.
