Victorian police have released a photograph of a mystery bathroom they believe could be the scene of a perverted crime.

Authorities said it appeared someone had held up a mobile phone to take pictures of the room through a window and flyscreen mesh, the Herald Sunreports.

It's believed the bathroom is somewhere in the Reservoir district in Melbourne's north.

Several items of clothing and what is believed to be a towel can be seen hanging off the back of the door.

Police have appealed to the public for help to identify the bathroom, believed to be in the Reservoir district in Melbourne's north.

"It looks like the bathroom is from an older style house with high ceilings," detective senior constable Tim Johns was quoted as saying.

"The window slides open to the right if looking at it from the outside and it is made from a frosted type of glass."

The photographs are believed to have been taken between April and May last year.
