More dust storms have been reported in western NSW amid warnings of a possible repeat of Wednesday's dramatic events in Sydney and Brisbane.

The Bureau of Meteorology has issued a severe weather warning of damaging winds in the ACT and southern and central NSW while forecaster Michael Logan told ninemsn that visibility was currently low in Broken Hill due to dust being stirred up by winds.

"There is around 400 metres visibility in Broken Hill, which is pretty low," he said.

He said it was unknown how the dust would disperse around NSW late in the afternoon and overnight.

If it gets broken up, then it is unlikely to have the same impact as Wednesday's gigantic dust storms which almost brought two states to a halt and severely disrupted air traffic.

Already one Rex flight in Broken Hill has been cancelled due to poor visibility.

Dusty weather conditions have been reported across far western NSW and they are expected to move east to Hay and Griffith during the day.
